My hospital's farmers' market photo essay
POSTED: January 13, 2008

Recently an article was published about our Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center's farmers market in "The Journal of Life Sciences". The author and the photographer did a great job of capturing the spirit of our market and the diversity of the cultures who enjoy it. Take a look at these pictures.

We have a wonderful Farmer's Market here in Fresno, CA. at Kaiser Permanente on Fresno Street. Every Wednesday, there are beautiful organic fruits and vegetables, fresh breads and baked goods, nuts, juices, and some trinkets and popcorn for fun!

Try it! Note: I have heard about your market that's doing well thanks to the hard work of Jeannie Borba, her colleagues, and the local farmers. Dr. M

Hi, Dr. Maring,
We live in Modesto, CA. Last year we were looking forward to our beautiful Dale Rd. hospital facility having a certified farmer's market onsite. (The hospital was not open, but many of our outpt. facilities were open at that time...) There seemed to be a glitch in the system whereby the farmer's market was put on hold, supposedly for a brief time. As it turned out, the market never opened due to some "improprieties with Kaiser receiving the go ahead to have a Modesto Certified Farmers Market approval from the city council." I certainly hope that Kaiser will be able to come forth with their farmers market onsite this year. Many people in our area could benefit from this. My husband and I feel that the city council was remiss in allowing the market....most liely due to a local farm that has since sold their property...what gives? Can you keeus abrest of this situation?
Thank you,
Sharon and Ellsworth Bell. Note: I will be meeting with some of the leaders there about another project and may be able to get some insight. Hopefully someday--- Dr. M
